Help Grow Our Equity Garden Incubator Plot!

Now well into its second year, the Colorado Farm and Food Alliance’s Just Good Food project is growing into its new space. Seeds have been planted and we are growing a lot of different foods for folks in need at our Equity Garden Incubator Plot at the Perennial Farm School.

As a centerpiece to the Just Good Food project, the Equity Garden Incubator Plot is growing on two acres of prime North Fork Valley farmland and will serve as a convening and workshop space, a model for conservation-minded practices, a source for food-sharing, and as a plot to grow future farmers.

The Just Good Food project focuses on encouraging and supporting our community to donate excess produce from their gardens, glean unpicked fruit, and to learn and help with growing perennial and annual foods at our new community plot. Last year we donated 8,000 lbs of produce to food banks, school programs, Tribal nations, and senior centers and we’re planning to double that this year.

But we need your help! Pitch in to help us bring this vision to life!

Help us GROW the Equity Garden Incubator Plot and provide nutritious, local food to your neighbors in need.

This community, sharing and educational space will include a food equity garden, demonstration plantings, tented and built outdoor workshop space, and four new farmer incubation plots.

We have plans to build an outdoor classroom, all-ability garden, drip irrigation system, an outdoor kitchen with a traditional southwestern horno oven, establish perennial plantings (like pollinators and fruit trees), art projects, a demonstration Southwest garden and accessible pathways to bring it all together.

But we can’t do this without YOU! Yes, YOU! Please consider pledging your support to our grassroots community-campaign to raise funds for this project.

For our initiating supporters we are offering the following through September 30, 2021 as a show of our appreciation and in recognition of your gift:

  • $15.00 - Two coupons for 1 local beverage from certain North Fork establishments

  • $25.00 - Just Good Food bandana

  • $50.00 - Box of local produce

  • $75.00 - 2 Tickets/On-site VIP reception - this summer

  • $125.00 - Fruit tree share (We plant a tree in your name and each season it produces you get a box of fruit)

And a BIG THANKS to our foundation supporters who have already seeded this project!

We would like to recognize the Just Transition Fund and the Foundation for Sustainability and Innovation whose early support has allowed us to launch this endeavor. Your donation today will help our garden bloom and grow!

Can’t make a monetary donation but have some extra time on your hands?

We couldn’t do it without your help! It’s the volunteers, contributors and supporters who make our garden grow!

We’ve been building a lot of soil at the Equity Garden Incubator Plot and invite you to come get dirty with us this season! Many hands make light work.

We can’t promise that you’ll have this much fun, but we are going to do our best. We can only provide healthy food, workshops and demonstrations, and community space because people like you pitch in. Will you help us?

Every Wednesday evening volunteers gather to meet neighbors, dig furrows, build mulch beds and plant a variety of perennial and annual vegetables, herbs and fruits for people in need this season and for future harvests to come.

The volunteer days provide an opportunity for busy folks to get involved, meet new friends and learn about permaculture techniques in the garden.

This summer we are offering monthly volunteer garden parties with food, music, wise farmer talks and art projects at the Equity Garden Incubator Plot. Join us for an afternoon, or many, of fun! Additionally, if you are interested in facilitating a workshop around trellises, mosaics, natural building, garden art etc please contact our Sustainability Manager, Elizabeth, at Elizabeth@colofarmfood.com

We will be announcing our later Summer and Fall garden plot activities and workshop schedule soon. Please visit www.ColoFarmFood.org to stay up to date on our latest news.

Meet Anne Lee!

We are excited to introduce Anne Lee Foster as our Garden & Volunteer Coordinator. She’ll be helping with all things at the Equity Garden Incubator Plot!

Come say hi and give her a warm welcome on Wednesdays at the Equity Garden Incubator Plot.

We are constantly humbled by what can be accomplished when a few people come together in the garden.

Addressing Food Insecurity through Community Action

We love getting nutritious food out to people in the community, And we need YOUR help to do it!

We love getting nutritious food out to people in the community, And we need YOUR help to do it!

The Just Good Food project is also in full swing of it’s second season of our Plant-A-Row food-sharing effort. We donate plant starts to gardeners and farmers who commit to planting some extra for those in need. We then do a weekly distribution to regional food banks, senior centers and other food-sharing programs around the region.

We strive to get fresh nutritious local food to as many people as possible, and this year we have over 20 giving-gardener participants! We are so excited to have so much support and enthusiasm for this project.

We look forward to learning and growing with talented growers in the area and to delivering fresh food to people in the community who might otherwise do without these healthy options. .

We are so grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you at some of our workshops, volunteer days and events this summer!
