“So we thank Sen. Hickenlooper for his leadership in introducing this bill. It is time to end noncompetitive oil and gas leasing and put taxpayers and the health of our lands back on top.  As the U.S. Senate considers the budget reconciliation process, ending this outdated 100-year-old backroom giveaway to frackers and fossil fuel corporations must be a priority.”

“The Colorado Farm & Food Alliance has long been an advocate for conservation priorities on the public lands and in the water supply areas that rural communities and agricultural operators rely on. As the climate crisis has grown more dire and had a direct impact on numerous agricultural operators in western Colorado, the alliance has actively engaged on the issue of climate change. That’s because no other threat poses the level of risk to farming and ranching in the region as does climate change”. 

“We understand the importance of having agency leadership that will listen to the public being impacted by their decisions, and leaders who will manage our shared resources with an eye toward their long-term health and our sustainable future”.  

Sen. Bennet’s Oil and Gas Bonding Reform and Orphaned Well Remediation Act will help clean up these problem wells in the short-term, and reform bonding requirements to make sure taxpayers aren’t left on the hook next time.

“The maps are meant to help people find great food and to support Colorado businesses and communities,” said Kolbenschlag. “When people buy local they help keep Coloradans employed and provide a market for local producers too.”
